D. D. Mason Sculptures
"Spring Thaw"
Coyotes are a common site out where we live, particularly in the spring and summer when both parents must hunt day and night to
keep their growing pups fed.  The many cottontails that live close to our house and barn, as well as our flock of guinea fowl that
patrol the property hunting for insects attract them.  Much as I dislike losing the occasional guinea, I enjoy the quality of wilderness
they bring to our foothills environment, and love their evening serenades.  They are beautiful, intelligent creatures.  It is no small
wonder the native Americans referred to the coyotes as “God’s Dog”.
